Admin Desktop Servics

Desktop Systems run three services:

The Student Teaching Service

1300 workstation on five sites
16000 users
Same look and feel wherever you log on
Highly mobile users
Large application set
Much specialist software
File storage
Mail service
Web services including Remote access to files and mail

The Admin Desktop Service

700 users
Three main sites
Most people use a core set of applications
Mostly people use the same computer or set of computers

The Academic File Store Service

Provided to academic or academic service departments (i.e. CS & Lib)
CS manages the server OS and takes backups
Department manages accounts.
This is not a managed desktop service, though CS, Econ, Geog, and Library do their own workstation management.
Maybe 1700 users
Service provided to:
  • Arts
  • Geography & Economics
  • SMD
  • Department of Law
  • Library
  • IT Services
  • Other academics who need to use ISOstock database
