Remote Access

Remote access to files over the web
provided by files.admin.qmul.ac.uk (see link on menu to right) and files.stu.qmul.ac.uk/staff for Corporate Affairs, DDS, & LLU.

The system allows people with strong enough passwords to access their own fire store, their P or G drive. Additionally it can give access to shared folders, on a N or J drive, however the access of shared folders is not automatic and must be approved for security reasons.
  • Access to shared folders is given by marking the group giving access to the folder as allowing external access.
  • Permission to make changes to a group access or membership must be given by the group owner or most senior member of the group actively working with the data in the folder.
  • It is not sufficient to have the permission of the head of department as they may have no idea what the nature of the data involved is and what standards of protection are being applied to the data.
  • The data controler needs to be aware they they are giving access to the data in the folder from anywhere in the world vis a web browser.
  • Sharing takes place at the top level folder (of N or J) and so all sub-folders will be made available.
  • Protection of the data is only as strong as the weekest password in the group with access
