  • Firefox
  • Shockwave
  • Flash
  • Adobe PDF reader
  • Foxit PDF resder
  • Thunderbird
  • Java runtime environment
  • doPDF PDF writer
  • 7zip
  • QM fonts

Additional Software

  • Open Office
  • FileZilla
  • Putty SSH client
  • HR Resource Link client
  • Citrix client
  • VLC video/audio player
  • Silverlight
  • Speedwell (Registry/Admissions)
  • Dreamweaver
  • some other applications as agreed with individual groups [to be updated]

Other Software
Other software can be installed on workstations, subject to approval. The approval process includes consideration of:

  • Licence validity in our environment
  • System requirements being achievable
  • Software quality. It needs to behave properly and does not do things like try to write data in program directories
  • The ease of software installation
  • Number of people needing to use software
  • Support costs (updates etc.)
  • Business need
  • Alternative software available / already installed
Not all software is suitable for installation in a securely networked environment, and time needs to be allowed for assessment. It is important that software specifications are looked at properly before purchase to avoid costly mistakes.
To allow proper scheduling of work it is helpful for us to receive as much warning as possible with at least a month's notice when new software installation is needed. If there are dates by which work needs to be done, that needs to make that clear at the outset. Where installation is time critical or falls at a busy time like a tax year end or start of academic year, it would be advisable to make requests further in advance.
